Merry Christmas!!

It has surely been a great week in Utah thus far! Since I have been in town (around noon on Friday) I have been snowboarding 4 days and climbing 2 days!! I got my hair cut short (much better for riding and being inside of a helmet) while I was here, I had some sushi (all you can eat) with old & new friends, I got a good start on playing Bioshock Infinite, and I am spending a lot of time with Tyler -- a friend from high school (pretty much family)! Here are a few photos from my trip thus far and I will leave you with another video blog! Tomorrow or Friday I am headed to Tahoe for part 2 of my vacation!! I am not having the best of luck with the GoPro but hopefully I'll get some footage of some sort before I head back to Colorado! A long season of fun awaits me back in Colorado where they are getting snow! The best part of it all is that when I return to Colorado my parents will be there for a week and I will get some quality time with them on and off the slopes!

I am going to be coaching my new rad girlfriend, Bethany aka "Bewbz" for Boardercross this year (USASA) so I will be experiencing the fun from a new perspective! Both of us are also training (starting in January) to swim from Alcatraz to San Fran this coming June! Bethany has already done this, it will be her second time and my first! For those of y'all that didn't know before, I have been a swimmer since I was young. I have coached multiple swim teams (age 2.5-18) of ~100-150 children and I have done individual lessons with kids of all ages! I was on the swim & dive team (yes, I was a diver too) for my high school and for one year of college at The University of Colorado. When I found myself skipping multiple practices a week to go swimming I realized that I was on the wrong team and the following year I joined CUST (CU Snowboard Team)! CUST is awesome, I can't wait to go on a CUST trip in February (to Mt. Baker) this coming February as an alumni!

Banzai Tour Stop #3

Today is the start of the third stop of the Banzai Tour. I am currently ranked eighth place on the tour. Going into today I am very excited! The Banzai Tour is a combination of boarder cross and big mountain snowboarding. Four people at a time are racing down the mountain just like in border cross however it is not a specially designed course. The natural mountain itself is the course. Flags are placed so that you know where to go -- I'm sure there is just as much effort in choosing where to place these flags however the terrain is pre existing. I love racing however in boarder cross, unfortunately though a lot of the competitors are not very nice to each other (to put it lightly). As I found out in the big mountain world of competition everybody is just a little bit more chill and relaxed and everybody just seems plain happy to be there. My first two and only two experiences with big mountain competition are at the Taos Salomon Extreme Freeride Championships (last season and the season before that). The competition in Taos is going on right now and I am very sad to miss this competition. When I decided to do the Banzai Tour I knew that I was probably going to end up missing the Taos competition. It's a sad reality especially since Taos was blessed with much more snow than Tahoe at this particular time of year! I have full intention of returning to Taos next year to compete at the freeride event there again. I have today and tomorrow as a third stop of this Banzai Tour and the next weekend at sugar bowl the same thing for the last stop of the tour! I do have one freeride competition this year that is called The Weekend Warrior Tour. This is also a free ride world qualifier stop that is held at Winter Park on the weekend of March 22-24. This competition is in Colorado so if anybody is interested in coming to watch please let me know and maybe we can work on getting a cabin together or something so that it's cheaper lodging for everybody! I'm all registered for today's race and I'm off to get ready! Lifts are in 45 minutes!!
